The SOS Children's Village of Oberá is situated on the outskirts of the town of the same name, which is at a distance of about 1,200 km from Buenos Aires near the Paraguayan border. The region is rather mountainous with a subtropical climate. In addition to the eleven family houses, there is also an SOS School (elementary school), which has been in operation since 1987, as well as an SOS child care center, where some of the staff from the nearby hospital is working.
Both the elementary school, as well as the surgery are open to the public and are thus of great importance for the population of the surrounding area. Some of the older children of the SOS Children's Village attend secondary schools in the city. An SOS Youth House was built in 1996 for the grown-up youngsters undergoing vocational training. Efforts are also being made to use part of the terrain for agricultural purposes, in order to cover the SOS Children's Village's needs.
