In 1994 a suitable plot of land was found near the center of the capital. It is located 10 km north of the town center in the community of Polosgo. In 1995 the possesory right was transferred to SOS Children's Village International. In the very same year construction works started. Due to various problems they were not finished until 1997. At the end of 1997, the SOS Children's Village Ouagadougou accomodated 100 children and was nearly fully occupied.
The SOS Children's Village Ougadougou comprises 12 family houses, one house for the Village Director, an administrative building, a workshop and an assembly hall. In 1997, the SOS Kindergarten also started operating (with 6 classrooms). At the same time, the first lessons were given at the SOS Primary School which was accomodated in the buildings of the large-scaled SOS Kindergarten. Since the end of 1997, the SOS Medical Center offers treatment to people from the surroundings. In 1999, the SOS Children's Village Ouagadougou was officialy opened.
