The Pakistani Ambassador to Nepal visited the SOS Children's Village Sanothimi, Nepal, on several occasions together with his wife. His wife later became Minister for Social and Women's Affairs in Pakistan. She asked Ms Edith Pohl, representative of SOS Children's Villages, to have an SOS Children's Village built in Pakistan. During her first visit to Pakistan, Edith Pohl asked Mrs Souriya Anwar, the sister of the Ambassador's wife, to found an SOS Children's Village Association. SOS-Kinderdorf decided to build the first SOS Children's Village of Pakistan in Lahore.

This first SOS Children's Village was financed mainly by the SOS Promoting Associations of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the SOS-Hermann-Gmeiner-Fonds-Deutschland e.V. In 1977, the SOS Children's Village Lahore was completed. It was officially inaugurated one year later. Over the years, several SOS Children's Villages and ancillary facilities have been established in Pakistan.
