The SOS Children's Village for handicapped children is situated directly besides the SOS Children's Village San Ignacio and the SOS Medical Centre. San Ignacio is a small town, 225 km south of the capital Asunción which is situated in an open and wide plain. The surroundings are mainly populated by poor agricultural labourers. The SOS Children's Village Panambí ("butterfly" in the local language Guaraní) consists of 8 family houses with a capacity for a maximum of 60 children. Due to the close proximity of the SOS Children's Village San Ignacio, the children have the possibility to be permanently in contact with healthy children. Furthermore, there are also rehabilitation rooms, workshops, an SOS Kindergarten for handicapped children, an SOS School for the handicapped and a swimming pool. All these facilities will warrant that the children are cared for according to their special needs and that their development is furthered in every possible way. This SOS Children's Village for handicapped children will not only accept children from the local region, but also from all over Paraguay, particularly from rural areas.
