The SOS Children's Village Pedra Bonita is, after the SOS Children's Village Jacarepaguá, the second SOS Children's Village that was constructed in the area of the vast city of Rio de Janeiro. It was completed in 1994 and is situated about 30 kilometres from the city centre. It can be reached by car from the International Airport in about one hour.
The SOS Children's Village Pedra Bonita consists of 11 family houses, several additional buildings and also runs an SOS Mothers Training Centre and a training-centre for SOS co-workers. The SOS Children's Village is located within a closed middle-class residential area and borders on a forest. A small stream flows through the SOS Children's Village. The water for the SOS Children's Village is supplied by this stream in addition to the public water system. The hospital at a few kilometres' distance and a shopping-centre can be reached easily by public transport. The children attend public schools.
