Our Facilities
The work of SOS-Kinderdorf International in Peru started as early as in 1975 by opening the first Peruvian SOS Children's Village Zárate near Lima. In 1978, the SOS Children's Villages Río Hondo and Esperanza were put in operation and on 21 April 1983, the SOS Children's Village Chiclayo was officially inaugurated followed by the SOS Children's Village Arequipa on 8 March 1984. In 1992, the construction of the SOS Children's Village Cuzco was started and finished in 1993. The most recent project of SOS-Kinderdorf International in Peru, the SOS Children's Village Huancayo was officially inaugurated on 6 March 2001.
The construction of another SOS Children's Village in Callao, Lima is planned. Apart from SOS Children's Villages there are also other additional SOS facilities in Peru, like SOS Kindergartens and SOS Social Centres. The youths from the SOS Children's Villages stay in special SOS Youth Residences during their vocational and higher educational training and are prepared step by step to become independent and live a life on their own outside the SOS Children's Village.
