The SOS Children's Village Piliyandala is located on the outskirts of the city of Piliyandala, in Kesbewa. Piliyandala is situated at a distance of about 20 km from the capital of Colombo. The SOS Children's Village Piliyandala consists of 16 family houses, the Village Director's house, a community house and the necessary administrative buildings. The younger children are looked after at the SOS Kindergarten while the older girls and boys usually move to one of the SOS Youth Facilities.
The SOS Social Centre, which includes a clinic, provides medical care to the population of the surrounding area and arranges, among other things, classes in sewing, cookery and English for mothers from the neighbourhood. Mothers can have their children looked after at the SOS Day Care Centre and since 1995, children from very poor families haven been provided with daily meals at the SOS Social Centre. The SOS School, which has a capacity of 800 students, is open to children from local families as well. It offers classes in four different sectors: sciences, mathematics, commerce and arts. The children are taught in Singhalese but they all learn English as a foreign language.
