The close co-operation that has developed over the years between SOS Children's Villages and other child-care organisations and aid agencies recognises this expertise. Further endorsement comes from the many requests to SOS Children's Villages for a village to be built in a specific country or region. Typically, these will be places where there are a great number of orphaned and abandoned children and insufficient facilities to care for them.

SOS Children's Villages has worked with many UN organisations over the year, when carrying out and supporting aid programmes or as part of long-term humanitarian projects. On the fiftieth anniversary of SOS Children's Villages in 1996, President Helmut Kutin met the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan in New York.

Kofi Annan highlighted the importance of the work of SOS Children's Villages for disadvantaged children across the world, and the significance of SOS neighbourhood aid projects such as schools and medical centres. The successful and rapid implementation of SOS emergency relief programmes was also an important contribution to humanitarian aid.

One of the biggest acknowledgements of the work of SOS Children's Villages has been the many nominations of both the organisation and its founder, , for the Nobel Peace Prize. In almost all of the countries in which SOS Children's Villages is active, it has received important awards for its work.
