The SOS Children's Village Retalhuleu is situated near the Pacific coast at a distance of 230 km west of the capital of Guatemala City. The area where the SOS Children's Village has been set up is at a distance of 2 km from the city centre of the province's capital of Retalhuleu (60,000 inhabitants).
In addition to the family houses and the standard community facilities of an SOS Children's Village, the SOS Children's Village Retalhuleu consists of an SOS Kindergarten, which is also open to children from local families, an SOS Youth Facility and a tailor's workshop, which was started in 1996. The SOS Children's Village has its own bus, which is mainly used to drive the children to school. By running a farm and a restaurant, as well as by fish farming, the SOS Children's Village has managed to create its own sources of income.
