The SOS Children's Village Rio Bonito was erected in 1980 on a wooded hill and has been populated since 1982. The suburb of Rio Bonito is situated in the south of São Paulo, about one hour by car from the city centre between two dam reservoirs which have become an important recreation area. From one side of the SOS Children's Village there is a beautiful view of the valley below in which is situated a recreational centre.
The SOS Children's Village consists of 11 family houses, two SOS Youth Homes and a Community House, as well as an SOS Kindergarten, two SOS Day Care Centres and an infirmary. Among others, a joiner's workshop and a repair shop are located in the Community House. Directly opposite the main entrance to the SOS Children's Village there is a public elementary school.
