The first children moved into the family houses of the SOS Children's Village San Cristóbal at the end of 1996. Most of them came from Guatemala's first SOS Children's Village San Juan Sacatepéquez, which had been transformed into an SOS Social Centre.

The SOS Children's Village San Cristóbal consists of 10 attractively and functionally furnished family houses, which have room for nine children and a baby each, the Village Director's house and a aunts' house. In addition to that, the SOS Children's Village runs its own SOS Kindergarten and an SOS Youth Facility. The adjoining SOS Social Centre houses an SOS Day Care Centre and an SOS Kindergarten.
