In 1981, the children from the original SOS Children's Village San Pedro Sula, which had to be set up very quickly after a national emergency, moved to the newly inaugurated SOS Children's Village San Pedro Sula on the outskirts of the town of San Pedro Sula. San Pedro Sula, which is situated in the North of Honduras, is the home of 400,000 people and the second biggest town of the country.
The SOS Children's Village San Pedro Sula has been set up on an area with many trees and is idyllically surrounded by little hills. It consists of the family houses and the standard community facilities of an SOS Children's Village, an SOS Kindergarten, which is also open to the children from the vicinity, an SOS Medical Care Centre and an SOS Youth Facility (The older children move there, in order to prepare for independent life. The SOS Children's Village runs its own farm, in order to meet its own demand and to offer the possibility to the youngsters from the SOS Children's Village to obtain farming skills.
