The SOS Children's Village Sanankoroba is located 30 km south of Bamako. It consists of 12 family houses, an administrative block, a sports ground, a SOS Kindergarten (which is also open to the children from the neighborhood), staff lodgings, a tailoring workshop, as well as a 2 hectare field whose produces are consumed in the SOS Children's Village. In 1994, a small village clinic was set up where children are treated. In downtown Bamako a Youth House (Torokorobougou) was built to accommodate youths until they start working and living on their own. In November 1996, construction of the SOS Primary and Secondary School was begun. It was finished and opened in 1997.
A detailed study of the socio-economic and cultural environment, which was used for the planning of the SOS Children's Village, helped to create a particularly successful example for the incorporation of traditional local building styles into a modern architectural concept.
