On 17 October 1996, the corner stone of the second SOS Children's Village was laid in Gracanica near Tuzla. Already at the end of February 1998, both SOS Children's Villages were completed and the first SOS mothers and children could move to their new homes. The official inauguration of the SOS Children's Village Sarajevo was celebrated on 20 September 1998 followed by the inauguration of Gracanica just one day later, on 21 September. The construction work of the most recent SOS project in Bosnia, an SOS Social Centre in Sarajevo , was started on 2 June 1999 and was finished in December 1999.
The SOS Children's Village Sarajevo was constructed on a site covering a surface of 20.000 m2. It is located in Mojmila, a newly constructed quarter of Sarajevo and comprises 15 family houses, the Village Director's house, one for the aunts, a multi-purpose hall and a sports field.
