The first Salvadorian SOS Children's Village was built in the small town of Sonsonate. Later, this SOS Children's Village has been transformed into an SOS Youth Facility, so that now it is exclusively used to accommodate the young people. In 1990, the children moved into the newly built SOS Children's Village on the outskirts of Sonsonate. It is situated on the road to San Salvador and can be reached by bus easily.
At the SOS Children's Village there are many fruit trees among which the following buildings have been erected: the family houses, a guest house and several community facilities - among others a communal kitchen, a laundry, a small shop, a tailor's workshop and an SOS Kindergarten which is open to the children from the SOS Children's Village and to the children from the neighbourhood. In addition to that, a sport field has been laid out. Furthermore, the SOS Children's Village Sonsonate includes an SOS Youth Facility and an SOS Social Centre which offers an SOS Day Care Centre, an SOS Kindergarten, three workshops for vocational training and an SOS Medical Centre.
