Our Facilities
The work of SOS-Kinderdorf International in Spain started in the early seventies when the first SOS Children's Village was opened in San Feliú de Codines near Barcelona, the second SOS Children's Village being built in 1973 in Redondela, in the northern part of the country. In 1980, the Spanish heir to the throne, Felipe de Borbón, became Honorary President of the Spanish SOS Children's Village Association. In 1983, the second SOS Children's Village was constructed in El Escorial near Madrid, in 1987, another SOS Children's Village was erected in Granada and officially inaugurated on 30 September 1989. On 23 May 1992, the SOS Children's Village Cuenca was put in operation and in July 1992 the construction works for the SOS Children's Village El Tablero/Tenerife were begun. In Zaragoza, a city in the eastern part of Spain, the sixth SOS Children's Village was constructed and on 25 September 1999, the most recent SOS Children's Village was officially opened in Telde on the Canary Islands.
