Our Facilities
The work of SOS-Kinderdorf International in Suriname, situated in the eastern part of Latin America, started in 1972 with the foundation of the local SOS Children's Villages Association. Somewhat later, construction work on the first SOS Children's Village, which is up to now the one and only in this country, was started. On February 22, 1977, the first families moved into five family houses and between 1977 and 1980, five additional family houses were constructed, the whole SOS Children's Village Paramaribo consists nowadays of a total number of ten family houses.
Between 1992 and 1996, the family houses were renovated and in addition to the existing infrastructure of the SOS Children's Village, an administration's building, an SOS-Kindergarten and 2 houses for the staff were built. Renovation and enlargement were finished in January 1997 and on June 13, 1997, the official inauguration of the SOS-Kindergarten took place in the presence of the President of SOS-Kinderdorf International, Mr. Helmut Kutin.
