Our Facilities

The work of SOS Children's Villages in Swaziland started in autumn 1987, when the construction works for the SOS Children's Village Mbabane began. In 1988 the erection of a SOS Primary and Secondary School commenced. After about two years, the building work was completed and the first children were able to move into the new family houses in December 1989. The Primary and Secondary School opened its doors with the begin of the academic year in 1990. The official opening ceremony of the SOS Children's Village Mbabane and its ancillary facilities took place on 19 June 1990 in presence of King Mswati III.

In 1998, the construction of a second SOS Children's Village in Swaziland was considered. The government handed over a suitable plot of land in Nhlangano, in the south of Swaziland, to SOS-Kinderdorf International and on 6 March 2000 the cornerstone was officially laid. The construction work was completed in summer 2001.
