Our Facilities
In view of the tragic fate of children who - according to a tradition in the north of Togo ("Witch Children") are abandoned by their families - a nun from Alsace had the idea of accommodating these children in a sort of children's village. When she contacted the French and German embassies in 1974 she was given the address of SOS Children's Village International. She later got in touch with us. This is how the idea of constructing an SOS Children's Village in Togo was born.
After the founder of SOS Children's Village International Mr had visited Togo, a field study was carried out in order to assess how urgently an SOS Children's Village was needed. In 1977, the construction of the first SOS Children's Village in Togo was finally started. At the same time, another SOS project was started in Kara, in the north of the country. In 1979, the first children were able to move into their new homes.
In the meantime the following SOS projects have been opened in Togo: SOS Vocational Training Centre in Kara, SOS Kindergartens in Lomé and Kara, SOS Youth Facilities in Lomé and Kara (Youth Village, Counselling Department), SOS Primary School in Kara, SOS Medical Centre (Mother & Child Centre) in Kara.
