Our Facilities
In 1996, when first contacts between SOS-Kinderdorf International and the Government of Uzbekistan were established, the Government showed great interest in the idea of SOS-Kinderdorf International and assured its support. Roughly a year later, in 1997, a Government agreement was signed. The Government donated a beautiful, four hectares plot of land with a good infrastructure located near the city centre of Tashkent.
On 21 July 1999 the official foundation stone-laying ceremony was held. In November 2000, the first families were able to move in. The official opening ceremony was held on 25 June 2001 in presence of Helmut Kutin, president, and Richard Pichler, secretary general of SOS-Kinderdorf International as well as numerous guests of honour. The erection of a second SOS Children's Village in Uzbekistan, in Samarkand, is planned.
