The foundation stone of the SOS Children's Village Viet Tri was laid in 1997. The first children moved into the new SOS Children's Village in 1999. The SOS Children's Village Viet Tri is situated in the centre of Viet Tri City, the capital of Phu Tho Province. Viet Tri City is 80 km to the northwest of Hanoi. The SOS Children's Village is near Hung King Temple, an interesting sight for tourists. Hung King was the first king of the Vietnamese dynasty.
The SOS Children's Village Viet Tri consists of 15 family houses and various administrative buildings. The architectural design is in keeping with the Vietnamese tradition, with roofs covered with red tiles. There is an SOS kindergarten, which can be attended by children from local families as well. There are several schools within walking distance of the SOS Children's Village. However, an SOS School was built on the village site. This school is attended both by children from the SOS Children's Village and by children from the neighbourhood. The SOS Social Centre includes a day-care centre, where children of working mothers are taken care of during the day.
