SOS Kindergartens are open to both children from the SOS Children's Village and the surrounding areas. The minimum age is three and a half years. The children are divided by age into groups of fifteen to twenty, or twenty-five at the most. They attend kindergarten until they reach school age. |

Priority is given to children from socially disadvantaged families, who otherwise would not have access to early learning and supervised play facilities. Where the local community is particularly poor, the children also receive a varied and vitamin-rich meal every day. This helps to reduce malnutrition and vitamin deficiency among children in poorer areas.
SOS Kindergartens have an integrative function for the SOS Children's Village and neighbourhood families and their children. They provide a place where SOS Children's Village children and neighbourhood children can learn and play together and develop mutual understanding.
