The three-hectare site of the SOS Children's Village is located in a suburb of Windhoek and borders on two roads and the river Arebush, which only carries water during the rainy season. The SOS Children's Village consists of ten family houses, a Village Director's house, a Community House, a laundry, a workshop and a kindergarten. As the educational system in Namibia is still poorly developed, it was decided to build a SOS Primary School next to the Children's Village. This school, of course, is also open for the children of the surrounding area. A computer training centre, also offering courses for grown ups, was affiliated to the Primary School. A state secondary school exists in the immediate vicinity. In order to help young people integrate into society, two Youth Houses have been erected outside the SOS Children's Village, where the youths stay during the time of their vocational training or education and prepare themselves to an independent life under the guidance of their youth leaders.
